Each week, you will meet with your mentee in group settings at corporate sites to go through a guided curriculum focused on professional and soft skill development. You'll offer support as we cover topics like resumes, strength assessments, goal setting, networking and interviews. The group atmosphere of 50+ volunteers per site allows further support for the mentees.
After the weekly sessions have concluded, you and your mentee will still be in touch through bi-weekly touch bases, either in-person or over the phone, to provide ongoing skill building, mentorship and encouragement as they navigate the job search, interview and hiring process.
Attend an in-person or web based information session that will provide in-depth information to help you determine if this is the right program for you.
After attending the information session you will receive an email with a link to our program application.
Attend an online or in-person interview to help us determine if you are a good fit for our program and to help us gather the information needed to pair you with a Mentee.
If we agree that you’re a good match for the program, we will let you know via e-mail. Our staff will then personally match you with a mentee and co-mentor.
Our unique mentorship program has a proven success rate, with 70% of mentees employed within one year, and another 20% pursuing advanced training. By volunteering as a mentor, you play a vital role in guiding mentees to success.
Mentors come from a variety of industries: finance, media, technology, government, advertising, and more. The group atmosphere allows you to connect with professionals you might not meet otherwise and bond over a shared desire to make a difference.
With access to exclusive professional development seminars and workshops, you have the opportunity to expand your knowledge on everything from public speaking to leadership to industry specific topics.
You have at least 2 years full-time professional experience.
You are committed to the entire 13 week program and 9 month follow up.
Attend a mentor training prior to the program.
You can exhibit patience and empathy with a mentee.
You can act as a role model and a leader.
Taking place at the midway point of our 13-week program, Speed Networking is an opportunity for our mentees to polish their elevator pitches and gain experience networking with professionals. Volunteers act as sounding boards, networking with our mentees and giving feedback to strengthen their pitch and grow their professional skills. This is a great opportunity to work one-on-one with our mentees and meet other like-minded volunteers.
“I was very impressed by the mentees. They were all well prepared and asked terrific questions. They were so enthusiastic and I’m glad to have participated.”
“Everyone I spoke to was very natural, they weren’t reading off a script or interviewing me. They were all great at speaking to what they were passionate about. We don’t have any open positions but I honestly wish we did so I could offer it to some of the mentees!”
After strengthening their resumes, polishing their elevator pitches, and developing solid, attainable career goals, our mentees are ready to take the job search by storm. During this event, you’ll conduct three mock interviews and provide feedback to prepare mentees to ace their next job interview. We’ll provide you with a job description and you’ll ask the questions. If you’re looking for an in-depth, one-time volunteer opportunity, this is the event for you!
“I was so impressed by all of the mentees. They answered my questions thoroughly and we were able to have a true conversation. They clearly took time to prepare.”
“It was a pleasure to attend this event. StreetWise makes such an amazing team and I love the work they do. It’s so exciting to be a part of a mentee’s process and even though I’m currently volunteering, I’d like to become a full-time mentor in the near future.”
