“Without StreetWise I would not have been on this career path. To reach your full career potential you need new experiences and connections. Mentoring means enhancing skills, but it has also motivated me to take a leap and grow.”
Growing up in Brooklyn, Tiffany always had a passion for learning and exploration. She was raised in an environment that encouraged curiosity, visiting museums, and attending various shows with her mother. However, as she transitioned into college, Tiffany found herself struggling with time management, focus, and self-confidence. Her experiences in academic settings did not prepare her for the professional world, and she felt like an outsider when she looked at the business world.
Then StreetWise entered Tiffany's life. Initially hesitant, she decided to join the program after hearing about it from her college's Career Center. “I needed to get out of my shell,” she shared. “I did not even have a LinkedIn profile before joining StreetWise.” The supportive environment of StreetWise not only helped her build essential skills but also allowed her to connect with mentors and peers who shared similar experiences. Her mentor, Khristy, head Human Resources, played a crucial role in Tiffany's development. Shadowing her mentor provided Tiffany with firsthand insights into the HR field and reinforced her passion for pursuing a career in this area.
Throughout her time in the program, Tiffany made significant strides. Because of the StreetWise program, she improved her networking abilities and secured an internship at a nonprofit organization, where she gained practical HR experience. “I conducted onboarding of employees and worked with the human resource information system and fell in love with the work.” she explained. This internship was a pivotal moment for Tiffany, as it solidified her career path and equipped her with the skills necessary for her future endeavors.
Tiffany’s story is not just about professional growth; it is also about personal transformation. She learned the importance of stepping out of her comfort zone and embracing new challenges. “Get comfortable with being uncomfortable,” she advises. “This mindset shift pushed me to make drastic choices and live with confidence.

Now, Tiffany is eager to give back to the community that helped her. “I would love to become a mentor once I have more experience in HR,” she mentioned, highlighting her desire to inspire others facing similar challenges.
